Work to Begin on I-65 at Kankakee River Bridge Wednesday June 14
Beginning this Wednesday evening, June 14 at 9 p.m, The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will begin work on I-65 at the Kankakee River Bridge, between Lake and Newton Counties as part of the I-65 Northwest Indiana Expansion project.
During this first phase of the project, a portion of the outside lane and shoulder will be resurfaced. During peak hours, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m, two lanes of southbound traffic will be maintained at all times. Intermittent single lane closures will occur at night. Northbound I-65 traffic will not be affected during the 2017 construction season.
It’s also important to know that during the project, the speed limit will be reduced to 55 MPH. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to the signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
Work on the remaining portion of the project, I-65 from State Road 2 to U.S. 30, is expected to start later this month.
