Update: Police Shoot Man Stabbing Woman in New Castle, IN.
New Castle – Indiana State Police investigators were notified this morning [Tue. Nov. 7] that the suspect, Brandon Flowers, has succumbed to his injuries. The Marion County Coroner’s office will be scheduling an autopsy. Once the investigation is completed it will be submitted to the Henry County Prosecutor for his review.
The female victim, Erin Mahin, was recently released from the hospital and is expected to recover from her injuries. This is all the information available for release at this time. Please direct all questions to Henry County Prosecutor Joe Bergacs.
Sunday night, 10/29, New Castle Police responded to 1000 Church St. to a report by neighbors of a man chasing a woman with a large knife. When they arrived they confronted a suspect armed with a large knife, Brandon Lee Flowers, age 41, who was standing over a female victim on the ground in the backyard.
Flowers, who refused to comply with an officer’s verbal commands, continued to assault the female victim, Erin Mahin, age 38, by stabbing her in the neck with the large knife. The officer was forced to shoot the suspect to stop his deadly assault. Both the wounded suspect and stabbing victim were airlifted to hospitals in Indianapolis.

New Castle – A New Castle man was shot by New Castle Police Sunday night as he stabbed a woman behind a home in downtown New Castle. Police were called to the home at 1000 Church St. around 9:42 p.m. Sunday night to a domestic disturbance, a report of a man with a large knife chasing a woman in the yard.
Two officers arrived with one going to the front of the house and one to the rear of the home. As the officer going to the rear of the home entered the backyard, he was met by a woman running from a knife wielding man. The man stabbed the woman in the neck with a large knife and the officer fired on the suspect wounding him.
The officers at the scene rendered first aid and summoned EMS. The suspect, Brandon Lee Flowers, age 41 of the Church St. address, was taken to Henry Community Health Hospital and later flown by medical helicopter to a hospital in Indianapolis with life threatening injuries
The female stabbing victim, Erin Mahin, age 38 of an address on So. 7th St. in New Castle, was taken to Henry Community Health Hospital and later flown by medical helicopter to a hospital in Indianapolis with serious injuries. It is believed the suspect and stabbing victim were acquaintances and had been involved in some sort of domestic dispute prior to the officer’s arrival.
This is all the information available for release at this time. This release was prepared for the Henry County Major Investigations Team at the request of Henry County Prosecutor Joe Bergacs. The team consists of officers from the Indiana State Police, Henry County Sheriff’s Department and the New Castle Police Department, and is used to investigate major crimes that occur in Henry County.
