Truck Driver Arrested For Operating While Intoxicated On Indiana Toll Road
St. Joseph County-A 31 year old truck driver from Bakersfield, CA is in jail for operating while intoxicated after he was stopped on the Indiana Toll Road by Trooper Arthur Smith around 8:30 p.m. yesterday, April 2, 2018.
Trooper Arthur Smith was working on the Indiana Toll Road when he saw a semi speeding in a construction zone near the 77.2 mile marker westbound. Smith observed the semi commit several other traffic violations before stopping the semi near the 76 mile marker.
While talking to the driver, Dmario Cunningham, Smith purportedly smelled alcohol and noticed signs of intoxication. Trooper Aaron Price came to assist with the investigation while Smith performed a DOT inspection on Cunningham. During this inspection it was found that Cunningham had been driving for over 24 hours before being stopped.
Further investigation revealed that Cunningham had a blood alcohol content of .15%. Cunningham was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail and arrested on preliminary charges of Operating While Intoxicated, Class A-Misdemeanor, and Operating While Intoxicated-Endangerment, Class A-Misdemeanor. Cunningham was also cited for several infractions.
