Three Car Crash Involving Porter County Sheriff Deputy
Porter County-A three car crash, this afternoon, involving a Porter County Sheriff deputy, sent all three drivers to the hospital.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Justin Hansen revealed at approximately 4:25 p.m., this Sunday, October 8, 2017, afternoon on 652 North and State Road 149 (this is ½ mile south of 700 North) a 1995 Jeep Cherokee, driven by Lawrence Caronch, 20 of Valparaiso, IN, was north bound when he saw a large lampshade in the middle of the road (2 lane). A 2017 Subaru Outback, driven by Edward Allande, 80 of Valparaiso, was behind the Cherokee when both vehicles stopped for the object.
A 2015 Ford Explorer (fully marked Porter County Sheriff’s police car), driven by Porter County Sheriff Deputy Tim Bell, 37, was behind Allande and failed to see that Allande had stopped his car. Bell’s Explorer hit the rear of Allande’s Outback, causing the Outback to go forward and hit the rear of the Cherokee.
Allande had to be extricated from his vehicle. All three drivers were taken to Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso. Caronch and Bell were treated and released. Allande was taken by ambulance to Rush Hospital in Chicago with a head injury.
