Homeless Couple breaks into Empty House near Demotte – Fri. Jun. 1

On Friday, June 1, 2018 at approximately 1:06 A.M. the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office received a report of suspicious activity at a residence located on Chateau Lane near St. Rd. 10 and Interstate 65, due to a vehicle in the driveway of the home which is under construction due to a structure fire.
Jasper County Sheriff’s Office assisted by Demotte Police Department, arrived to find a Tan 2008 Chevrolet Impala in the driveway reportedly stolen from the City of Crown Point, IN on May 31, 2018.
Officers on scene observed movement and lights inside the residence. With knowledge from the home owner that no one had permission to be in the residence, Officers entered said residence after announcing their presence multiple times. Located were 30 year old Stephen J. Pluchinsky of Demotte and 30 year old Tiffany Ann Gertz of Crown Point hiding in the crawl space of the home.
Pluchinsky and Gertz both indicated they had entered the home looking for clothing and to take a shower. Pluchinsky admitted to being homeless.
Pluchinsky and Gertz were taken into custody and both charged with Auto Theft a level 6 felony, Burglary a level 4 felony and Resisting Law Enforcement a class A misdemeanor.
ALL SUSPECTS ARE CONSIDERED INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY IN A COURT OF LAW.
