Griffith Man Seriously Injured in Crash

Hammond, Lake County-A Griffith man was seriously injured, yesterday, in a single vehicle crash when he attempted to make a last minute lane change.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Alissa Partyka revealed at approximately 6:00 p.m., yesterday, July 11, 2017, evening, a 2007 Hyundai, Santa Fe, driven by Julian G. Morales, 19 of Griffith, IN, was south bound on Cline Avenue when he attempted to change lanes to go onto the I-80/94 on ramp at the last minute.

Morales cut through the gore area (solid white striped lines) and struck an attenuator.  He then continued west across the I-80/94 ramp lanes and struck the concrete barrier wall; coming to rest against the concrete wall.

Morales was taken to North Lake Methodist Hospital in Gary and later transported to Loyola University in Chicago with serious injuries.

Assisting: Trooper Corey Adam, Hammond Police, Hammond Fire and Hammond EMS and Purkey’s Towing.
