Elderly Man in Distress Run off I-65 & Crashes into Demotte Lake Holiday Campground – Sept. 8
Jasper County (Demotte)- At approximately 2:30 p.m, this afternoon a single vehicle crash on I-65 at exit 230 resulted in two occupants of the vehicle being transported to separate hospitals. Preliminary investigation by Trooper Kurtis Jones and Trooper Paul Arnold revealed that a passenger car was traveling south bound on I-65 and was exiting the ramp at exit 230. Witnesses stated the vehicle was driving erratically and it appeared the driver was having a medical event. Witnesses further stated the vehicle drove off the ramp at a high rate of speed crashing into a fence that borders the Lake Holiday Campground. Upon coming to a rest, the vehicle caught on fire. Residents at the campground were able to remove the occupants prior to the car becoming fully engulfed. The driver, Paul Doman, 80, of Arcadia, Fl, was flown by Lutheran Air to Christ Advocate in Oak Lawn. The passenger, Judy Dawson, 87, of Arcadia, Fl was transported to Riverside Hospital in Kankakee, IL. Assisting at the scene was the Keener Twp. Fire Dept, Keener Twp. E.M.S., Village Motors, and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department.
