Demotte Man Airlifted from Crash on I-65 – Mon. Mar. 12
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Kim Zelnis revealed at approximately 6:30 a.m., yesterday, Sunday, March 11, 2018, a 2012 Toyota Corolla, driven by James E. Wright, 31 of Demotte was northbound on I-65 at the 230 mile marker (this is the Demotte/Roselawn exit) when he had a medical incident. The Corolla went off the roadway, hit a portable construction arrow board, went down into the grassy median, and came to rest facing west bound in a water filled ditch. The Corolla then started on fire.
A semi driver from Fleetwood, Pennsylvania, stopped and assisted Wright (who was disoriented and confused) from exiting his Toyota just before the Corolla became fully engulfed.
Wright was eventually airlifted to Loyola University Hospital in Illinois with non-life threatening injuries.
I-65 south bound was closed for approximately one hour for extinguishing the fire, removal of the Toyota, and the injured.
Assisting: Master Troopers Martin Benner and Fred Trammel, Trooper William Stancy and Area Towing
